Dundee United have secured their place at the top of Scottish Premier League with a thrilling home win over Motherwell on Saturday afternoon.

The victory was all the more impressive given that it came after a disappointing draw against Celtic and a loss to Hamilton Academical earlier in the week.

The Tangerines were outplayed by their opponents for much of the game, but they refused to give up and eventually found themselves in front thanks to a stunning strike from Ryan Christie.

Motherwell fought back valiantly, however, and were level before half-time through a goal from David Goodwillie.

But Dundee United hit back immediately after the break, with a brace from Lewis Morgan putting them back in front and securing all three points.

It was a well-deserved win for the hosts, who have now won five consecutive league games and are currently unbeaten in seven outings.

For Motherwell, the defeat is a bitter pill to swallow, as they had been on the verge of clinching a spot in Europe's elite competition following their impressive run of form.

However, they will be hoping to bounce back in the coming weeks and make amends for this disappointing result.
